Can stone slabs be used for shower walls?

Certain stone and engineered materials can be used in shower applications when they are suitable for the environment and installed as part of a properly prepared shower system. Care requirements vary by material.

Do stone shower surrounds have grout lines?

Large-format pieces can substantially reduce the number of joints compared with smaller tile. Seams or joints are still required where separate pieces meet and at appropriate transitions.

Can shower niches and plumbing fixtures be incorporated into the stone?

The fabrication can account for planned openings and project details when accurate dimensions and specifications are available. More complex configurations should be addressed during project planning.

Stone Shower Surrounds Harrisonburg VA, Custom Wall Panels

Large-format stone can give a shower a cleaner, more continuous appearance by reducing the visual breaks created by numerous smaller pieces. Material selection, wall dimensions, plumbing locations and transitions around niches or other features all influence how the surround needs to be planned. Marble and porcelain offer very different aesthetics, giving clients options within both our natural stone and engineered stone collections.

A shower is also a wet environment, so the project involves more than choosing an attractive slab. The underlying shower assembly, waterproofing and appropriate installation methods must be addressed separately from the finished surface. Where the design includes coordinating stone at the entrance or along half walls, shower curbs and wall caps can carry complementary material into those smaller architectural details.

Accurate measurements are important when large pieces need to meet at corners or fit around plumbing penetrations. Through stone fabrication, slabs can be prepared to the project's specifications before installation. Pattern direction and the relationship between adjoining pieces can also be considered when working with materials that have pronounced veining or movement.
