What types of stone can be used for a dining table?

Several materials may be considered depending on the desired appearance, dimensions, support system and expected use. Natural stone options can be especially appealing when distinctive veining or movement is an important part of the design.

Does a stone dining tabletop need a special base?

The base needs to provide appropriate support for the size, weight and configuration of the stone. Base design should therefore be established before the tabletop is fabricated rather than selected as an afterthought.

Can I choose which part of the slab is used for my table?

Slab layout can be discussed before fabrication, particularly when a particular vein, pattern or area of movement is important to the design. What is possible depends on the slab dimensions, finished table size and required cuts.

Custom Stone Dining Tables Harrisonburg VA, Fabrication

A stone dining table turns the slab itself into a focal point, making material selection especially important. Rather than choosing only by color, the overall movement, veining and portion of the slab used for the tabletop can influence the finished design. Marble and quartzite can provide striking natural variation, while other selections offer entirely different character. Explore our natural stone collection to compare slabs in person.

Table dimensions and base design need to be considered together because stone carries substantial weight and requires appropriate support. Shape, size, edge treatment and the relationship between the slab and base should be established before fabrication. Our custom edge profiles can provide different finishing options for exposed edges, allowing that detail to complement the proportions and style of the finished table.
